Protein Bars – Three Factors To Consider In Choosing The Right One
Learn how to choose the best protein bar for your lifestyle and fitness needs.
Many people snack on a chocolate or candy bar when they are hungry. However, if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle, you can’t just snack on any bar. You need to keep your own stock of protein bars. Indeed, protein bars are one of the best snacks for those trying to be fit and healthy, particularly since they provide instant protein boost while keeping your food cravings at bay. Not all protein bars are created equal, though. So how do you choose the best one among the dozens available? There are simply three factors to consider.
The first factor is the nutrients found in protein bars. True, most protein bars may be nutritious, but that doesn’t mean they all have the same nutrients. To make sure your protein bar has the nutrients which suit your lifestyle and fitness needs, check the table of nutritional facts. If you’re doing endurance training or doing some really intense workouts, you’ll need energy protein bars which contain a lot of carbohydrates. On the other hand, if you’re more focused on burning fat, you might want to pick out low-carbohydrate protein bars.
The second factor to consider in your quest for the best protein bar is the ingredients. Again, protein bars contain different ingredients, so make sure you take a look at the list of ingredients (usually located below the nutritional facts table) and see if they are all healthy. Pay special attention to the type of protein used (e.g. whey protein or soy protein), as well as the sweeteners used. Try to avoid protein bars with sugar, glycerin or xylitol. Of course, if you’re allergic to peanuts, you have to stay away from these, as well.
Finally, the third factor you should consider is the taste of the protein bars. Granted, protein bars are not meant to be as delectable as those chocolate and candy bars you used to love, but that doesn’t mean they should taste bad. After all, the tastier your protein bars, the more likely you are to snack on them in lieu of those potato chips or cookies you crave. Don’t forget to add a little variety, too.
Indeed, there are plenty of protein bars available today, but that shouldn’t be a negative thing. Rather, with just considering these three factors, you should be able to easily narrow down the best ones and make a habit of crunching on them in no time.
